I used to play mixed futsal (casually but with extreme competitiveness 😂) for 8 years. I remember one time my friend knocked over a girl from the opposing team and he didn’t help her up. . When I asked him about it afterwards - and I also asked why he didn’t apologise - he said something about treating women equally and if he wouldn’t do it for a man, why would he do it for a woman? 🤷🏻‍♀️ . I had another male friend tell me that if a woman shoved him in a game, he would shove her just as hard back because “if women REALLY want equality then we should be able to shove you as well”. 😟 . Now, I’m not advocating for violence in Futsal (for either gender), but these conversations have stuck in my mind for a long time. They’re examples of why equality is not the same as equity. As my friend @tiffanydawson_ eloquently summarised: “🟰EQUALITY means giving everyone the same resources ⚖️EQUITY means giving individuals the resources needed to achieve an equal outcome” . On this #IWD2023 I celebrate all my #womencreatives and all the women everywhere. The theme this year is #embraceequity, may we all strive for this together. . 2022 wasn’t what I expected… I started a new job & didn’t have much time to create, I never went viral (😂) & I didn’t achieve all my creative goals. . But as I look back on the year, I’m feeling proud (let’s get more comfortable with being proud of ourselves!!) & wanted to celebrate some #calligraphygoals: 📚 hosted my 1st #brushpencalligraphy workshop 👰🏻‍♀️ had the privilege of doing some #weddingcalligraphy for my beautiful friend 🎨 tried 2 fun workshops: #paintpouring & #watercolour 🖼️ took part in the #summercreativelive retreat & wrote a guest blog post for @thepigeonletters 👯‍♀️ spent precious moments with #calligrafriends @dustyjadestudio @eleagraphy @wildflowerculture @illyboodesigns @pb_calligraphy 🏆 took part in the @tomsstudio calligraphy competition & didn’t win, mustered the courage to take part in the 2nd one & WON!! 💁🏻‍♀️ was reposted by @elyse_myers & had orders fly in from her wonderful community! 😻 made some fundraising cards for @padsandpawskl . Ultimately, the thing I’m most proud of on this #calligraphyjourney is the #community that has been so kind, warm & generous every step of the way. So THANK YOU for being here, I’m beyond grateful. I’m not sure what 2023 looks like but my resolution is to get better at making mistakes ☺️ what is your NYE resolution or goal or a new habit you want to form? 💕 Chloe
