Despite significant progress being made since 1956 towards gender equality, women in South Africa and across the world, continue to face inequality. StatsSA 2021 reported that areas of inequality include: 👎 education & employment 👎 equal pay for equal work 👎 Gender-based violence "We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back." At the TLT Foundation, we believe inequality cannot be solved by one person, one piece of legislation, or one action group. It will take all of us, doing what we know how to do best. For us, this means changing the minds, attitudes and beliefs of young people, and breaking the cycle of inequality and and GBV right here, right now, in this lifetime. You strike a woman, you strike a rock ✊🏻 Happy Women’s Day 🌻 66 years ago, on 09 August 1956, over 20 000 women gathered and marched to the Union Buildings to protest the proposed amendments that would require people of colour, specifically black people, to carry a "pass" or " dompas" wherever they went. Women of all ethnic groups were outraged and indignant about these travel restrictions as well as about apartheid in general and handed over a petition with over 100 000 signatures. With a femicide rate 5x the global average, women in our country wake up to a scary reality every single day. At the TLT Foundation, we believe the scourge of GBV cannot be solved by one person, one piece of legislation, or one action group. It will take all of us, doing what we know how to do best. For us, this means changing the minds, attitudes and beliefs of young people, and breaking the cycle of domestic violence and GBV right here, right now, in this lifetime.
